Pedro RiveraRio Occupation London
6 May to 3 August 2012 V22 F Block
Architect Pedro Rivera currently teaches at PUC (Pontificial Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro) and together with Pedro Avora, is the director of Studio-X Rio and GSAPP at Columbia University. Studio-X Rio is a global research network, which explores the future of cities.
Pedro Rivera explores globalised cities and how they can be re-signified. The Olympic City for example, is a major form of urban intervention. Rivera wants to create a space for dialogue on cities, marking a large X in the middle of urban spaces such as roads or shopping centres. X is a space for conversation, exchange, and debate. He conducts interviews on the X and assembles thirty improvised stalls, in the style of Rio's street vendors, to be used by the other Occupation artists. Rivera offers gifts from Rio to viewers in exchange for their ideas. The giant X is installed in various locations including once at V22, as part of the festival finale. Photographer Ratao Diniz tracks the course of each event with photographs and speech boxes of participants’ comments.
