Big Fish (1996) is a lyrical, impressionistic portrait of Jose Nava, a Mexican artist living in London, by his eldest son, Zadoc Nava, and a compelling exploration of their ambivalent relationship. Jose came to England in 1962 for a short visit and never went back. Since then he has been an actor, photographer and painter. The film chronicles his strange and sometimes surreal experiences both in Mexico and 'this cold land', where he feels like 'a fish in the wrong pond'. Big Fish explores how circumstances, including his father's murder, influenced Jose's unique way of seeing. The film has won numerous awards including the Silver Plaque at Chicago International Film Festival, 1996 and Best Documentary at CortoCinema Film Festival 1997, in Italy.
